Socialized Healthcare

I heard birds today for the first time in a long time. People actually broke out of their jumpers to bare those arms around midday, but it was still cold enough to see your breath and the Americans stayed firmly in their sweatshirts.

I went to the doctor today. I’ve had a bad cough since Thursday, and the campus doctor is free, so I went today. It was a huge hassle. I was told it sucked and to get there early, so I went as soon as it opened at 9 a.m. They told me walk-ins could only see nurses, you had to make an appointment to see a doctor. So I made an appointment for 11. I went home and came back and was seen by a nurse. She said volume was so high they had to screen who actually needed to see a doctor (surprise, surprise, she decided I actually needed to see a doctor). I went home and came back for an appointment at 3 to be seen by a very holistic, alternative doctor. She prescribed me antibiotics and some echinacea drops to take for the rest of the time I’m here. I don’t know if it’s an instance of a poorly-run clinic, socialized healthcare, or just school healthcare, but this system was a pain.

Finding the pharmacy was a whole nother adventure, but it’s over now and hopefully I’ll be better soon.
