What Does Ireland Have to Do with Halloween?

Like I’ve already told you, I hate Halloween.

I’ve hated Halloween since I was a toddler and Mom had to take her beloved “Halloweenies” to Grandma and Grandpa’s house because they terrified me so much that I couldn’t be in the same house with them.

Scary shit, right?

I hate it all. I hate the pressure of coming up with a creative, funny or impressive costume. And, if successful, I hate the attention a creative, funny or impressive costume garners. Halloween’s a lose-lose situation for me!

But I digress. My point is: this year, as my boyfriend spends this October 4,000 miles away in Galway, Ireland, my interest drifts to the birth of that very holiday I’ve always had a dodgy relationship with.

Things Drunk Irish People Say to an Oscar Wilde Statue

My bedroom window is approximately 10 feet above a Galway-famous Oscar Wilde statue.

Instead of saying my address, which the pizza guy never finds, I tell people my apartment is “by the Oscar Wilde statue.” What does this mean for my entertainment?

It means I overhear a lot of people talking to an inanimate object.

How Ireland Handles a Heat Wave

A staggering heat wave has hit Galway, keeping the city in a sweaty, tangled mess of exposed limbs, reaching up to 80 degrees! (That’s almost 27 degrees for you Celsius fans.) So why is it that a person from Missouri, where the temperature routinely hops over 100 (38 C), is sitting here in Ireland complaining about the heat?
